Astronomical research using radio interferometry dates back to the early 1980's in Hungary. In 2016, a small group was established in the Konkoly Observatory, working on astronomical applications of connected-element interferometers and very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) networks all over the world, typically and cm wavelengths. The group members are frequent users of the European VLBI Network (EVN) and work in a broad international collaboration. As part of the activities of the larger Konkoly extragalactic research group, the main radio interferometry topics include studying quasars, especially in the earliest Universe, other types of young jetted active galactic nuclei, as well as VLBI astrometry. The group puts special emphasis on education, by delivering university courses on radio astronomy and supervising BSc, MSc and PhD students.
