A dedicated research programme for mid-infrared interferometry was established here in Konkoly Observatory in 2003 with L. Mosoni, who was a post-doctoral researcher at the time. A few years later, Konkoly Observatory organised the 2008 ESO/VLTI School titled "Astrometry and Imaging with the Very Large Telescope Interferometer" at Keszthely, Hungary. From 2014 until 2018, a post-doctoral researcher position dedicated for interferometry was established (J. Varga), which resulted in the creation of the MIDI Atlas (Varga et al. 2018) ».
Furthermore, Konkoly Observatory has provided support in the building of MATISSE, the latest interferometric imaging instrument of the European Southern Observatory.
Finally, the Konkoly Observatory VLTI Expertise Center was established in 2021, while the next VLTI School will be organised by us in Hungary in 2023.
